Nowadays even public charging stations at airports are not safe , cafe, thanks to ‘juice jacking’. RBI in its booklet has issued caution regarding this matter. One may wonder how does this operate? Defrauders install malicious hardware into the public charging stations rendering people’s data to be extremely vulnerable. Some involve direct injection of malware into the phone where the victim loses control over his electronic device. The data includes password, bank details etc. In order to avoid such circumstances prevention is the cure.
· People should bring their own chargers and plug into an electrical outlet. Charging in high-risk locations should be avoided.
· USB data blockers should be used as it provides the charging functionality and blocks data transfer.
· Secure WIFI networks should be used. Open unsecured networks can be manipulated by scammers.
· The software’s apps should updated regularly.
· Using of phone while it is charging on a public station should be avoided.
· One should disable the auto connect feature on the device as it may unknowingly connect to malicious networks when searching for a charging source.
